A positive impact on the climate
At Kaingaroa Tipu, we’re committed to being climate positive and taking steps to reduce our environmental impact every day.
Our forests are a vital carbon sink, sequestering carbon as they grow, but there is also much more we are doing to reduce our emissions.
As part of our goal to become fossil fuel free by 2050, we and our contractors are introducing more hybrid and electric vehicles to our fleets. We also incentivise our contractors to reduce their climate impact, with our Annual Climate Positive award.
Meanwhile, our team is exploring emerging and expanding alternative and renewable energy technologies. We’re putting plans in place to become more energy efficient and balance our net carbon sink with emissions reductions to make an even greater impact.
A significant step in our environmental commitment was the installation of a debarker at our Murupara Log yard, where logs destined for export are debarked. Our process eliminates the need for on-wharf methyl-bromide treatment, which equates to approximately a 19% reduction in NZ’s national methyl-bromide use.
