Apply for a UAV Operations Permit for Commercial, Scientific or Research Purposes
Operating a UAV over our forests or sites is only permitted for commercial, scientific or research purposes. Anyone who wants to fly a UAV over these areas must obtain a permit from Kaingaroa Tipu and must meet all Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) rules.
To prevent any delays, please submit your UAV Operations Permit application at least one month before you need it.
To apply for a UAV Operations permit you will need to:
- Read our UAV Policy and UAV Notification Procedure.
- Read our General Forest Access Rules & Safety Behaviours for Business Permit Holders.
- Complete and sign the UAV Operations Permit Application form and provide the supporting documents as requested.
- If you need to drive into the forest to operate the UAV you will also need to apply for a Business Forest Access Permit.
- Depending on your forest destination you may also need to complete a Key Authorisation form.
